It happened the other night when I was walking down Waikiki.
My family and I were in a hurry to meet our friends for a sunset photo.
As we passed by the people on the beach, we could see they were from all over the world and hear them speaking various languages.
But there was a moment when this international crowd was all united as one.
The sun broke through the clouds and brilliant colors filled the sky.
As if on cue, people began to pull out their cell phones and started pointing them up in the air.
Families threw their arms around each other and poised for pictures.
You could literally hear squeals of delight as people smiled and snapped their selfies.
The sunset had stolen the show and made a glorious scene.
We even made it to our spot in time to capture this pic:
So who gets the credit for this sunset?
After any other show the credits roll.
Even when you use a photo you are supposed to give credit to the photographer.
In this case, credit belongs to my friend Caesar who invited my family on this Hawaiian island vacation.
Last night we were eating dinner together, and everyone stopped what they were doing to look at pictures our kids had drawn on back of their menus. We gave them credit like they had just opened up a gallery of fine art.
So, do you give credit to the master artist of the sunset?
What if when the sun disappears below the horizon and the sky turns all these beautiful hues there were actual credits that rolled across the heavens:
Tonight’s sunset brought to you by:
PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY REASON YOU ARE ALIVE RIGHT NOW!!!
Of course, the credits don’t roll because the show goes on with the moon and the stars taking center stage to light up the night.
So, I want to thank my friend Caesar. Because he invited me on this vacation, I saw the sunset.
It was like the whole world went into slow motion.
Everybody on the beach caught up in the Creator’s glorious design.
It was a moment of worship for me.
I give the sunset my full star recommendation to you.
When was the last time you took the time to watch one?
I’m not talking about seeing it in your sideview mirror while you are driving or when someone else posts on social media. I’m saying, “YOU SHOULD SEE THE SUNSET!!!”
For a moment, it’s safe to look straight at the sun.
You watch its gradual, inevitable descent due to the rotation of the earth.
You see the radiant colors spread across the canvas of the sky.
You are reminded of the joy of being alive.
At this moment, the sunset is speaking to you.
It is declaring to you his glory from day to day.
All of the heavens above are proclaiming his handiwork to all of us down here on earth.
And as you look into the sky, make sure you give the credit where it is due…
1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
